Most of the last ten years has been at the helm of Site Reliability Engineering for some of the largest financial trading firms in the world — the kind of operations where hundreds of thousands of orders move every second and a few minutes of downtime is unacceptable. Before that he led both the engineering team and the live trading operation behind a major European trading desk.

The work that sounds most technical — monitoring, alerting, incident response — is, at its core, about the same thing you want from someone watching your vacant Florida property: knowing what is actually wrong, deciding whether to wake you up about it, and getting it fixed before it becomes a disaster. The principles transfer directly. He has been an enthusiastic early adopter of home automation and IoT for many years — long before consumer “smart home” was a category.
